Each time a player blesses an olive oil, it will use up 0.9% of the player's accumulated sanctity (2.7% for a 3 dose vial, 3.6% for a 4 dose vial). Players can only light the fire altar if they have more than 10% sanctity, as well as only being allowed to sanctify olive oil with sanctity above 10%. It is possible to fail while attempting to light the fire. When a player successfully lights the fire altar, they will be rewarded with 100 Firemaking experience. When the fire altar in the centre of the temple has been lit (with a tinderbox), use a vial of olive oil on it to create sacred oil. Players lose 1% sanctity every 30-50 seconds so this method should only be used if the player can kill the shades consistently in less than a minute. Killing shades is recommended only for players high in combat, as only the kill itself generates sanctity. Sanctity is gained by either building/reinforcing the temple walls or by killing the shades that come to attack the temple. To do this, you will need to help build and defend the Temple of Mort'ton as was done in the quest. The olive oil must be blessed on the fire altar in the temple north-east of Mort'ton in order to be sanctified into sacred oil. Sacred oil is created from olive oil which can be bought from the Mort'ton general store or by using serum on the afflicted. To create one of the many types of pyre log, a player must use a vial of sacred oil on the chosen type of log. Sacred oil is used to create the various types of pyre logs. The nearest bank without doing so is in Canifis. Completing In Aid of the Myreque before this minigame is strongly recommended to access the bank in Burgh de Rott. It is highly recommended to use a dose of Serum 208 on Razmire Keelgan and Ulsquire Shauncy as soon as possible for assistance, trading, and supplies. There are many much easier methods of reaching Mort'ton once players have completed further quests such as Fairytale II and In Aid of the Myreque. Once in the west swamp, the player can head south through the winding path just as if they had went through the monk's gate. Alternatively a player may go from the south side of the Haunted Woods into the eastern Mort Myre swamp then walk over to the west swamp through the wall of weeds. Nature Spirit needs to be started to access southern Morytania through the gates south-east of the temple. When there are many players at the temple, such as on World 377, the shades are less problematic for low combat players since they will be more likely to attack the temple and players engaging them for the minigame.Ĭompleting the Shades of Mort'ton quest unlocks the minigame teleport which places you just south of the temple. The shades also appear in large numbers throughout the town which makes avoiding them difficult. Mort'ton is a single combat zone but other shades in the area will still be attracted to the player and tend to line up while waiting for the player to finish combat. These shades will also actively seek to find and engage a player from larger than normal distances and around objects. Loar Shades are so tenacious that once a shade targets a player, it can be lured through the entire length of the wandering path and halfway through Mort Myre Swamp before the shade is forced to turn back at a programmed boundary. See the section below on unlocking the chests.Ī combat level of at least 81 is strongly recommended to avoid being targeted by the Loar Shades whilst building the temple and cremating the shade remains. These chests contain a variety of rewards that vary greatly in value. The intended rewards from this minigame come from using the shade keys on chests in the Shade Catacombs. It is one of the cheapest methods to gain Crafting experience, by repairing the temple, but at around 12 experience points a second (with flamtaer hammer) it is very slow for the money saved. It can be lucrative, with clue scrolls being a semi-common reward from shade keys, as well as many armour and jewellery rewards from the chests. Players can also gain combat (killing shades) and Herblore (creating serums) experience from this minigame. The Shades of Mort'ton minigame provides a variety of experience, primarily in Crafting (repairing the temple), Prayer (burning shades), and Firemaking (burning shades). Players often play the game to get sacred oil, which can be utilised to create pyre logs for cremating shades, or sold to other players.
